About The Position

Performs registration for various areas including Urgent Care and Central Registration across different Medical Office Buildings (MOBs). Conducts patient interviews to gather demographic, financial, and guarantor information, assists with MyChart activation, and inputs data into the Hospital Information System (HIS). Contributes to financial effectiveness by verifying insurance, identifying veteran status, and inquiring about VA billing. Identifies accident-related encounters and corrects claim details. Secures necessary patient signatures on various forms, provides relevant patient forms, and verifies insurance eligibility and benefits. Ensures prior authorization/precertification for outpatient services and verifies medical necessity for Medicare services, issuing Advanced Beneficiary Notices (ABN) when required. Correctly identifies patients using three primary identifiers, avoids duplicate medical records, and notifies clinical departments of patient arrivals and delays.

Requirements

  • Completion of High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Personal computer/data entry experience preferred.
  • Six months working in the healthcare environment preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook preferred.
  • Strong telephone and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Teambuilding skills.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and medical insurance preferred.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Attains American Heart Association’s BLS certification within first sixty (60) days of employment, maintains continuous certification.
  • Attends Behavioral Health De-escalation Training Class (within six months of hire).

Responsibilities

  • Performs registration for Urgent Care and Central Registration in various MOBs.
  • Conducts patient interviews to gather demographic, financial, and guarantor information.
  • Activates MyChart and inputs information into the Hospital Information System (HIS).
  • Obtains and/or reviews insurance cards and patient identification.
  • Identifies patient’s veteran status and documents in demographics.
  • Notifies pre-cert specialist of intent to bill VA for non-scheduled services.
  • Ensures proper VA authorization is on file for scheduled services.
  • Identifies accident-related encounters and corrects claim details.
  • Secures patient or patient representative signatures on required forms.
  • Provides appropriate forms to patients (e.g., Animal Bite Forms, FROI).
  • Completes verification of patient insurance plan eligibility and benefits.
  • Verifies that prior authorization/precertification is secured for required outpatient testing and procedures.
  • Completes medical necessity verification for Medicare outpatient tests and services.
  • Presents the patient with an Advanced Beneficiary Notice (ABN) if needed.
  • Correctly identifies patients with verification of three primary identifiers.
  • Avoids duplicate medical records (DMR) creation and reports duplicate MRNs.
  • Notifies clinical departments of patient arrivals and delays.
