About The Position

The primary goal of the Elk Ridge Community Health Patient Relations Representative is to support Elk Ridge’s Mission of providing comprehensive, quality health care that is affordable and accessible to all who may have healthcare needs, by successfully performing the primary essential functions. This role involves greeting patients, managing the patient portal, obtaining accurate demographic and insurance information, and scheduling appointments. The representative also handles patient check-in and check-out, collects financial obligations, and ensures patient records are up-to-date. A key aspect of the role is explaining insurance benefits to patients and their families in a HIPAA-compliant manner. The position also includes Joint Commission responsibilities related to maintaining a safe and hygienic work environment and understanding compliance requirements. Additionally, the role supports the organization's mission by acting as a professional role model, participating in community events to promote health awareness, and ensuring cost-effective use of resources.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • 7-11 months of experience in data processing, clerical/administrative, or equipment operation.
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers.
  • Level I fingerprint clearance card (current, valid, and in good standing, or applied for within seven working days of employment).
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered if directly related to job functions and responsibilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in data processing, clerical/administrative, equipment operation.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) with the ability to speak, read, and write in both languages.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and check-in patients.
  • Monitor and respond to the patient portal.
  • Verify patient demographics and insurance documents.
  • Obtain referral information and related health records.
  • Enter and update data in the EHR (Practice Management) System.
  • Scan documents daily.
  • Schedule Telehealth appointments and other internal specialties.
  • Answer phone calls, make and follow-up on appointments, and direct calls.
  • Take messages for providers and other clinic staff.
  • Sort and distribute mail.
  • Confirm the accuracy of the responsible provider for document receipt.
  • Follow scanning workflows to ensure quality patient care.
  • Verify accuracy of open tickets by pulling billing charges/holds/unretrieved charges.
  • Provide back-up support for other office positions, such as insurance follow-ups and referrals.
  • Manage details of multiple provider schedules.
  • Maintain updated knowledge of local and organizational programs.
  • Complete update forms for clinic staff and patients.
  • Keep updated on own medical employee health immunizations and annual trainings.
  • Follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Review, comprehend, and reply to company email and related correspondence.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and hygienic work environment in compliance with all Policies and Procedures.
  • Demonstrate understanding of and proficiency with Joint Commission Certification (JCC) standards.
  • Represent Elk Ridge Community Health as a professional role model.
  • Participate in community events that promote good health and awareness of Elk Ridge Community Health services.
  • Participate in healthcare activities to maintain and enhance Elk Ridge’s image.
  • Ensure and support the cost-effective use of materials, supplies, and equipment.
  • Complete documentation of hours worked accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Maintain skills proficiency with Elk Ridge Community Health operating systems and software programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
