About The Position

The primary goal of the Elk Ridge Community Health Patient Relations Representative is to support Elk Ridge’s Mission of providing comprehensive, quality health care that is affordable and accessible to all who may have healthcare needs, by successfully performing the primary essential functions. This role involves greeting patients, monitoring the patient portal, obtaining and updating patient demographics, verifying insurance, securing referral information and health records, checking patients in and out, scheduling follow-up appointments, and collecting patient financial obligations. The representative will also make deposit slips, explain insurance benefits within HIPAA guidelines, and maintain a clean and safe work environment in compliance with Joint Commission standards.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • 7 – 11 months in data processing, clerical/administrative, equipment operation
  • Level I fingerprint clearance card: current valid and in good standing or have applied for it within seven working days after beginning employment
  • Reliable transportation that can meet any operational reassignments of the organization during the workday.
  • If driving during work hours, possess a valid driver’s license and comply with Arizona vehicle insurance requirements.
  • Undergo drug testing prior to employment and be subject to post-accident, reasonable suspicion, return to duty and follow up drug and alcohol testing.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and check-in patients.
  • Monitor and respond to the patient portal.
  • Verify patient demographics and insurance documents.
  • Obtain referral information and necessary health records.
  • Enter and update data in the EHR (Practice Management) System.
  • Scan documents daily.
  • Schedule Telehealth appointments and other internal specialties.
  • Answer phones, make appointments and follow-up appointments, direct calls, and take messages.
  • Sort and distribute mail daily.
  • Confirm the accuracy of the responsible provider for document receipt.
  • Follow scanning workflows to ensure quality patient care.
  • Verify accuracy of open tickets by pulling billing charges/holds/unretrieved charges.
  • Provide back-up support for other office positions, such as insurance follow-ups and referrals.
  • Manage details of multiple provider schedules.
  • Maintain updated knowledge of local and organizational programs.
  • Complete update forms for clinic staff and patients as needed.
  • Keep updated on own medical employee health immunizations and annual trainings.
  • Follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Consistently review, comprehend, and reply to company email and related correspondence.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and hygienic work environment in compliance with all Policies and Procedures.
  • Demonstrate understanding and proficiency with Joint Commission Certification (JCC) standards.
