About The Position

Under general direction of the Patient Registration Supervisor, greets incoming patients, enters pertinent information into the computer, and cross-trains for general outpatient registration and emergency room registration. Exhibits the F.I.R.S.T. values (Friendliness, Innovation, Respect, Service, and Trust).

Requirements

  • Zero to two (0-2) years previous related Registration experience.
  • Knowledge of insurance and medical terminology preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written).
  • Excellent customer service and service recovery skills.
  • Computer experience.
  • Flexibility to respond to changing priorities and interruptions.
  • Ability to use the computer, keyboard and use general office equipment including phone, fax and scanners.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Internet, Microsoft Office Programs (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

  • Registration of all patients in a timely, accurate, and professional manner.
  • Ensuring all forms are signed by the patient, guarantor, or the insured.
  • Timely distribution of necessary forms and communication to applicable departments in a professional manner with timely admissions and transfers of patients in the computer.
  • Handles the switchboard operation in a professional manner until the new telephone system is in place.
  • Handles a CODE situation in a professional manner such as paging it.
  • Job knowledge as it relates to hospital Inpatient, Observation, Surgery, Outpatient policy, insurance plans, and the overall registration process.
  • Obtain all necessary information for the efficient billing of the patient account such as: copies of insurance cards, driver’s license, advance directives, and verification of insurance policy. Scanning of all documents will be handled by the HIM department except for the following items that will be done by the Registration Associate.
  • Learn all patient classes and determine what class goes with what test or procedure.
  • Screen self-pay patients for Indigent Care Eligibility.
  • Screen Hispanic patients that do not have any insurance. Give them the paper instructing them where to go. If it is an emergency, register as Self Pay and it will be that patient’s responsibility to go to the Blue Grass Community Action partnership for assistance.
  • Collection of all Co-pay’s and Deductibles for the Emergency room, Inpatient and Outpatients admissions or Surgeries.
  • Check work throughout the day for any errors and make corrections as needed.
  • Check with the nurse’s station for all dismissals by 11pm.
  • Position consists of working all shifts, some weekends, holidays, covering shifts from call-ins and overtime as needed, and other duties that relate to the registration department.
  • Pre-registers, organizes, and distributes all needed information and materials (for admissions).
  • Monitors orders received through the fax system to properly distribute (non-scheduled vs. scheduled vs. not Ephraim and needed to be sent elsewhere).
  • Maintains a working knowledge of all insurance, managed care, third party, and governmental insurance plans.
  • Must be able to work independently and deal with stressful situations when registering and verifying information with patients.
  • Able to review and analyze patient estimates for explanation to patients or to catch any errors produced.
