The Patient Registrar is responsible for engaging in positive interactions, providing helpful assistance, and managing patient registration processes. This role involves arriving patients to the ER and Urgent Care, signing in or checking in hospital outpatient visits, and identifying patients in need of immediate care. The registrar also admits surgical and direct admit patients, schedules and checks in hospital outpatient lab patients, and ensures accurate patient identification to prevent errors. They enter patient complaints/symptoms, generate armbands and labels, gather demographic and billing information, verify insurance, and assist patients without insurance in connecting with financial counselors. The position also involves collecting co-pays and payments, assisting with patient coordination, providing information to patients and visitors, and performing pre-admission and pre-registration functions. Additionally, the registrar handles cash drawer management, resolves registration errors, assesses interpreter needs, manages phone inquiries, monitors security systems, and utilizes service recovery skills. Flexibility, reliability, and efficient work management are crucial. The role requires a friendly, approachable, professional demeanor and appearance, completion of travel screening questionnaires, tracking visitors, providing directions, demonstrating teamwork, and communicating effectively with leadership and staff. The registrar must also follow healthcare regulations, perform light cleaning, complete assigned educational courses, and may be required to work alternate shifts, weekends, and overtime.
