Patient Observation Attendant, Allentown and Sacred Heart (Full-Time Nights)
About The Position
The Patient Observation Attendant observes patients under the close supervision and direction of the Registered Nurse. This role is crucial in ensuring patient safety and providing continuous monitoring. The attendant reports to the registered nurse assigned to the patient and receives specific observation guidelines for each patient, shift, and assignment. They are responsible for maintaining a safe environment for the patient, remaining with the patient at all times as directed, and identifying themselves to the patient and their family. The attendant continuously observes and monitors the patient, reporting any behavior changes or patient requests to the care provider or registered nurse without leaving the patient unattended. They may also accompany patients to and from tests or treatments and assist with meal setup if there are no known swallowing deficiencies. The patient room is to be maintained in a neat and orderly manner.
Requirements
- Must complete mandatory education and competencies required for position.

Responsibilities
- Reports on/off duty to the registered nurse assigned to care for patient.
- Receives specific observation guidelines from the registered nurse for each patient, shift and assignment.
- Provides a safe environment for the patient, under the direction of a registered nurse.
- Remains with patient at all times as directed by the registered nurse.
- Identifies self to patient and/or family members or significant others.
- Provide continual observation and monitoring of patient.
- Reports behavior changes and patient requests to patient care provider or registered nurse.
- Does not leave patient unattended, even while reporting observations.
- Accompany patient to/from and during tests or treatments.
- May assist patient with set up of meals and fluids (only if no known swallowing deficiencies).
- Maintain patient room in neat, orderly manner.
- Provides a safe environment for the patient, under the direction of a registered nurse.
- Provides constant observation of patient as directed by registered nurse.
