About The Position

The Patient Navigator's role is to assist clients and those seeking services in navigating the behavioral health care system. The Patient Navigator will often serve as the first point of contact between a potential client and the department and will engage potential clients, create a trusting relationship between potential clients and the department, and assist potential clients in completing the necessary steps to engage in services. Patient Navigators will also assist established clients in removing barriers to care by completing client outreach, assisting clients to navigate the healthcare system, and serving as an accessible resource for client questions or concerns.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Must be able to communicate both verbally and in writing in a professional manner.
  • Must be organized, dependable, and able to work with minimal supervision towards the goals and objectives of the program.
  • Must be able to demonstrate patience and adaptability in working with others.
  • Ability to work with clients of varying cultural backgrounds is required.
  • Familiarity with office equipment and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required.

Nice To Haves

  • Cultural knowledge of Native Alaskans/American Indians is preferred.
  • Two years of work experience in healthcare or customer service preferred but not required (for Pay Grade M).
  • BHA I certification or two years of work experience in healthcare or customer service required (for Pay Grade MM).
  • BHA II certification, or one year of experience at Pay Grade MM (for Pay Grade N).
  • Ability to participate in training and certification courses.
