Patient Food Service & Utility Associate play an essential role, helping to deliver safe, high-quality meals while maintaining a clean, efficient kitchen environment that directly supports patient health and recovery.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
  • Basic math and computer skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow directions
  • Excellent verbal communication and customer service mindset
  • 1-2 years' experience in customer service
  • Ability to multitask

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in hospitality/food services industry strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist patients and families with menu selections based on dietary needs, preferences, and allergies
  • Verify diet orders and ensure full compliance with nutrition guidelines
  • Accurately assemble meal trays and snacks according to prescribed diets
  • Deliver meals and supplements using proper patient identification procedures
  • Support patients with tray setup and collaborate with nursing staff
  • Record meal intake and communicate concerns to the Clinical Nutrition team
  • Ensure timely, accurate tray delivery and tracking
  • Perform all core dish room functions: tray assembly, cart delivery/retrieval, tray removal, and dishwashing
  • Operate conveyor dish machines and perform manual cleaning of pots, pans, utensils, and equipment
  • Maintain strict separation of clean and soiled items to prevent contamination
  • Clean and sanitize dish room, kitchen equipment, floors, and food prep areas
  • Follow proper chemical usage and sanitation standards
  • Stock supplies and maintain inventory levels using FIFO (First-In, First-Out) practices
  • Assist with food prep and additional kitchen support as needed
  • Follow all food safety and infection control protocols (hand hygiene, glove use, temperature control)
  • Maintain temperature logs and QA/QC documentation in compliance with HACCP, JCAHO, and DPH standards
  • Ensure proper sanitation practices and safe equipment handling at all times
  • Uphold the highest standards of cleanliness, organization, and safety
  • Deliver excellent service to patients, families, and team members
  • Work effectively in a fast-paced environment, both independently and as part of a team
  • Adapt to changing priorities and assist with additional duties as needed
  • Serve as a positive representative of Baystate Health
