Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in patient financial services, medical billing, or a related healthcare administrative role
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology, insurance processes, and healthcare billing procedures
  • Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems and billing software
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to handle sensitive financial discussions professionally

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree or higher preferred
  • Certification in medical billing or coding (e.g., Certified Professional Biller) is advantageous.
  • Experience working with multiple insurance providers and familiarity with Medicare and Medicaid billing
  • Demonstrated ability to manage high call volumes and multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite and patient management software
  • Bilingual abilities, especially in Spanish, to better serve diverse patient populations

Responsibilities

  • Communicate with patients to explain billing statements, insurance coverage, and payment options clearly and empathetically.
  • Verify patient insurance information and eligibility prior to services being rendered
  • Assist patients in setting up payment plans and processing payments accurately and timely
  • Resolve billing discrepancies by coordinating with insurance providers, healthcare staff, and patients
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of patient financial transactions and communications
  • Respond promptly to patient inquiries via phone, email, or in-person regarding account status and billing questions
  • Collaborate with internal departments to ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and organizational policies
  • Educate patients on financial assistance programs and help them apply when eligible
