The Patient Financial Services Representative is responsible for helping clients understand and manage the financial aspects of their care, while supporting accurate, timely collections and maintaining a positive patient experience. This role focuses on verification of coverage, authorization, and resolution of patient balances in alignment with organizational financial policies. Please note, this position is in-person Monday through Friday at our Greensburg, PA office. The compensation range is $18-24/hr, this salary range reflects total compensation but it is not inclusive of benefits and other company perks. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of front end billing operations experience within the healthcare sector, behavioral health experience preferred.
  • Prior experience in behavioral health, medical front desk, or customer service preferred.
  • Strong communication, organization, and multitasking skills, with comfort using EMR and basic office software.

Responsibilities

  • Perform verification of benefits, both initial and ongoing, to confirm eligibility, coverage limits, and patient responsibility prior to and during treatment.
  • Greet and check in clients and visitors, ensuring a warm, professional, and trauma‑informed experience.
  • Obtain and track prior authorizations as required by payers to ensure services are approved and billable.
  • Collect copayments and other point-of-service amounts, issue receipts, and accurately post payments to patient accounts.
  • Conduct outreach on outstanding patient balances, discuss statements, and arrange resolution in a professional, compassionate manner.
  • Establish and monitor payment plans that align with organizational policy and patients’ financial capacity.
  • Screen patients for financial assistance programs (reduced fee, scholarships, or charity care), assist with applications, and document determinations.
  • Apply patient credits and adjustments appropriately, ensuring accurate account balances and timely refunds when indicated.
  • Maintain and update insurance information in the practice management/EMR system, including changes in coverage, plans, or subscriber details.
  • Place accounts on hold and cancel appointments in accordance with organizational policy when coverage, payment, or authorization requirements are not met, ensuring clear communication with patients and internal teams.
  • Answer client calls and respond to patient financial inquiries, providing clear, timely information and resolving issues or escalating as appropriate in a professional manner.
  • Collaborate with the revenue cycle team to identify any discrepancies on patient accounts or claims and ensure they are corrected promptly to maintain accurate billing and patient balances.
