The Patient Financial Advocate is responsible for screening patients on-site at hospitals for eligibility assistance programs either bedside or in the ER. This includes providing information and reports to client contact(s), keeping them current on our progress. The role involves reviewing hospital census or utilizing established referral methods to identify self-pay patients, screening them for State, County, and/or Federal eligibility assistance programs, and initiating the application process bedside when possible. The advocate will identify specific patient needs, assist with enrollment applications, and inform patients about Firstsource services and progress updates. They will also provide transitions to backend Patient Advocate Specialists, record patient information on designated screening sheets, and document screening results in the onsite tracking tool and hospital computer system. Additional duties include identifying and reviewing outpatient/ER self-pay accounts, attempting to screen patients face-to-face or by telephone, and documenting accepted accounts. Field work, including patient home visits, may be required. The role also involves maintaining positive working relationships with hospital staff, reporting important occurrences to management, accessing information for Patient Advocate Specialists, keeping an accurate log of referred accounts, meeting goals, maintaining confidentiality, keeping a neat workstation, adhering to policies, and participating in the Corporate Compliance Program.
