About The Position

Scheurer Health, a Critical Access rural hospital, is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Patient Financial Advisor to join our team in Pigeon, MI. The ideal candidate will have experience as a patient financial counselor and be able to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent
Experience with accounting, billing and collections
Knowledge of healthcare insurance programs
Excellent communication and customer service skills
Ability to interpret payer guidelines, billing guidelines and financial policies

Responsibilities

Financial Screening: Interview patients and families to evaluate their ability to pay and determine eligibility for government or internal assistance programs.
Insurance Verification: Verify insurance eligibility, check benefits, and obtain necessary pre-authorizations for medical procedures.
Cost Estimation: Calculate and explain out-of-pocket costs, deductibles, copays, and good faith estimates to patients prior to or during treatment.
Assistance Program Navigation: Guide patients through applications for Medicaid, Medicare, state programs, and the hospital’s charity care programs.
Payment Collection: Establish structured payment plans and collect point-of-service payments in a professional, compliant, and empathetic manner.
System Documentation: Maintain precise records of insurance details, financial agreements, and patient notes within the electronic health record (EHR) system.
