The Patient Escort is responsible for identifying the correct patient for transport, ensuring the appropriate mode of transport is used based on the patient's condition, and taking necessary precautions for each patient (e.g., oxygen, I-med, foley catheter, chest tube). The role also involves ensuring patients are properly covered for privacy, that oxygen tanks are filled daily, and instructing/training new transport staff. Additionally, the Patient Escort must relay pertinent patient information to supervisors or appropriate departments, report any delays in patient transport, and demonstrate knowledge of institutional policies regarding patient care, fire, safety, and infection control. This role also includes maintaining the cleanliness of transport carts and wheelchairs, reporting any malfunctioning equipment, making film copies, looking up and filing patient folders, and writing new folders. The position requires the ability to handle stressful situations calmly and professionally.
