In this role, you will assist RNs, physicians, dietitians and other staff in coordinating and fulfilling treatment plans. Requirements

High School Diploma or GED
Completion of a hospital-based patient companion training program OR equivalent experience OR enrollment at an accredited school of nursing and completion of a nursing fundamentals course or completion of a hospital-based NA/PC orientation
Knowledge and understanding of basic patient care activities, such as basic hygiene, skin care and vital signs

Nice To Haves

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross - If you do not hold this certification, you must obtain it within three months of hire

Responsibilities

Assist with direct and indirect patient care for one to two patients, such as rooming, vital signs, weight and pulse oximetry. If assigned to a closed unit, provide constant observation only for safety for three to four patients.
Assure patient safety by ensuring that catheters, tubes or other medical equipment have not been removed or disconnected.
Accompany and assist patients at all times, including transport, tests, transfers and ambulation.
Collect patient specimens for laboratory testing.
Identify and report changes in patient status to an RN or physician.
Follow protocols and initiate CPR and other emergency measures as required.
Acknowledge patient concerns and needs and notify appropriate staff for assistance.
Complete all documentation and provide hand-off communication to caregivers responsible for the patient.
