As a Patient Companion, you will help facilitate this mission by providing compassionate and top-quality care. In this role, you will assist RNs, physicians, dietitians and other staff in coordinating and fulfilling treatment plans. You will also find a culture that encourages professional growth, educational development and career success. A caregiver in this position works varying shifts. Working 48 hours per 6-week schedule will be required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Heartsaver Level of Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within three months of hire

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge and understanding of basic patient care activities, such as basic hygiene, skin care, vital signs and other general hands-on patient care functions

Responsibilities

  • Assist with direct and indirect patient care for one to two patients, such as rooming and taking vital signs, weight and pulse oximetry.
  • If assigned to a closed unit, provide constant observation only for safety for three to four patients.
  • Assure patient safety by ensuring that catheters, tubes or other medical equipment have not been removed or disconnected.
  • Accompany and assist patients at all times, including transport, tests, transfers and ambulation.
  • Identify and report changes in patient status to an RN or physician.
  • Initiate CPR and other emergency measures as required.
  • Acknowledge patient concerns and needs and notify appropriate staff for assistance when necessary.
  • Complete all documentation and provide hand-off communication to caregivers responsible for the patient.
