On our G80 General Internal Medicine unit, you will be caring for adult patients with complex multi-system failure issues, such as congestive heart failure and sepsis. You will also be taking care of patients with nutritional deficiencies, which is unique to our G80 unit. Many of our patients also require ongoing cardiac monitoring, so you will be trained in Cardiac Dysrhythmia and EKG interpretation. Leadership on this unit fosters a strong sense of teamwork, and caregivers gain skills applicable to many specialties across the organization. This unit is one of only two Ohio Cleveland Clinic units to receive the Prism Award for nutritional insufficiency program excellence. A caregiver in this position works days, 7:00am—7:30pm.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or GED
  • Knowledge and understanding of basic patient care activities, such as basic hygiene, skin care and vital signs

Nice To Haves

  • Heartsaver level of Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (If you do not hold this certification, you must obtain it within three months of hire)

Responsibilities

  • Assist with direct and indirect patient care for one to two patients, such as rooming, vital signs, weight and pulse oximetry. If assigned to a closed unit, you will observe three to four patients.
  • Assure patient safety by ensuring that catheters, tubes or other medical equipment have not been removed or disconnected.
  • Accompany and assist patients at all times, including transport, tests, transfers, ambulation.
  • Identify and report changes in patient status to an RN or physician.
  • Complete all documentation and provide hand-off communication to caregivers responsible for the patient.
