About The Position

Patient Care Technician is a member of the health care team who performs functions which support the delivery of a single standard of care, under the supervision of a registered nurse, for a group of patients relating to their hygiene, safety, nutrition, elimination and comfort needs.

Requirements

  • Completion of an approved Nursing Assistant Certification program required.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license required for hires after August 9, 2020 (earlier hires grandfathered).
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire (valid for at least 6 months).
  • Unit-specific credential: FL-BLS.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 0 to 3 years of related experience preferred.
  • Ability to analyze, organize, and prioritize work while meeting multiple deadlines.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Critical thinking and professional composure in stressful situations.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions.
  • Proficiency in job-related technology and software applications.
  • Must maintain all required unit-specific and organizational competencies, certifications, and licensures.

Responsibilities

  • Provide and modify patient care and education using a systematic process.
  • Assist healthcare team with simple procedures, prepare supplies/equipment, and support patients/families.
  • Perform general patient care tasks including: Vital signs monitoring, Feeding assistance, Mobility support, IV line and drainage management, Personal hygiene (bathing, dressing, bed making, linen changes).
  • Utilize specialized equipment (e.g., spirometer, restraints) as needed.
  • Prepare and clean exam rooms, treatment areas, and stretchers between patient use.
  • Transport patients to and from treatment areas.
  • Maintain cleanliness of assigned clinic areas at the end of each day.
  • Assist with food orders for patient kitchen evaluations.
  • Support fabrication of adaptive/assistive equipment (washing mitts, wheelchair gloves, safety belts, straps).
  • Keep storage areas organized and stocked.
  • Perform office duties such as answering phones and taking messages.
  • Follow unit-specific policies, procedures, and competency checklists.
  • Demonstrate service excellence and CARE values: Compassion, Accountability, Respect, Expertise.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
