About The Position

The Patient Care Technician position is within the Yawkey 6 IMCU, a Medical Step Down unit with 38 beds, providing care for intermediate level medical patients. This includes complex cardiology patients, pericardial drains patients, TAVR patients, ventilated patients, and those transferred from the MICU with complex medical issues. As a Patient Care Technician in the Critical Care department, you will be a key member of the healthcare team. Under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse (RN), and in accordance with hospital policies, procedures, protocols, and standards of practice, you will provide direct clinical and support services. Utilizing a patient-centered care model and supported by the nursing organization, you will participate in the delivery of care to patients and their families, working cooperatively with all healthcare team members to meet patient, family, and staff needs.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or GED certificate
  • Certification in basic life support (BLS), including CPR certification (must be current or obtained within 30 days of employment)
  • Ability to pass clinical competency testing
  • Physical ability to meet job responsibilities
  • Basic math and computer proficiency
  • One year of previous experience as a Patient Care Technician in an acute hospital setting OR
  • Currently enrolled in a nursing program and have completed two cycles of clinical rotation OR
  • Completed an approved Patient Care Technician training OR
  • Completed an approved certified medical assistant training OR
  • One year of previous experience as an EMT or field medic (considered for adult ED positions only)

Nice To Haves

  • Fluency in another language a plus
  • Previous medical/surgical experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of appropriately delegated patient care interventions for patients in the Critical Care department and their families.
  • Clinical services could include, but are not limited to: obtaining vital signs, bathing and feeding, dressing wounds, assisting with hygiene, cleaning rooms and linens, and emotional support.
  • Perform a variety of environmental and inventory activities to ensure a safe, clean, and appropriately equipped environment for patients, visitors, and staff in the Critical Care dept.
  • Contribute to the efficient operation of the Critical Care dept, ensuring quality patient/family clinical outcomes.
