BMCs Teaching Innovation Unit focuses on nursing model redesign, enabling Registered Nurses (RNs) to work to the top of their license. RNs on this unit participate in innovation teams to pilot, measure, and evaluate new technologies and workflows. The unit's clinical setting is designed to provide an optimal teaching/learning environment through collaborative efforts of RN leaders, healthcare team members, and clinical education, offering a career-advancing opportunity. As a Patient Care Technician in the Critical Care department, you will be a key member of the healthcare team at BMC. Under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse (RN) and in accordance with hospital policies, procedures, protocols, and standards of practice, Patient Care Technicians provide direct clinical and support services. Utilizing a patient-centered care model and supported by a strong nursing organization, you will participate in delivering care to patients and their families, and work cooperatively with all healthcare team members to provide various support services.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or GED certificate
  • Certification in basic life support (BLS), including CPR certification (must be current or obtained within 30 days of employment)
  • Ability to pass clinical competency testing
  • Physical ability to meet job responsibilities
  • Basic math and computer proficiency
  • One year of previous experience as a Patient Care Technician in an acute hospital setting OR Currently enrolled in a nursing program and have completed two cycles of clinical rotation OR Completed an approved Patient Care Technician training OR Completed an approved certified medical assistant training OR One year of previous experience as an EMT or field medic (considered for adult ED positions only)

Nice To Haves

  • Fluency in another language a plus
  • Previous medical/surgical experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of appropriately delegated patient care interventions for patients in the Critical Care department and their families, including obtaining vital signs, bathing and feeding, dressing wounds, assisting with hygiene, cleaning rooms and linens, and providing emotional support.
  • Perform a variety of environmental and inventory activities to ensure a safe, clean, and appropriately equipped environment for patients, visitors, and staff in the Critical Care department.
  • Contribute to the efficient operation of the Critical Care department, ensuring quality patient/family clinical outcomes.
