The Emergency Department at UPMC Williamsport is hiring a Patient Care Technician to join our dedicated team! This is a casual position with a schedule that includes days and evenings, from 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM. The role requires working 2 holidays per year (one Spring/Summer and one Fall/Winter). Responsibilities include providing direct patient care, assisting with procedures and daily living activities, administering therapies, reporting patient status changes to the RN, and performing core nursing assistant responsibilities. Additionally, the PCT will perform specific tasks such as phlebotomy, EKGs, simple dressings, Foley catheter removal, point-of-care testing, bladder scans, straight catheterization, or IV catheter removal. The role also involves ensuring equipment is functional, communicating effectively with other departments, maintaining professional relationships, and contributing to universal unit activities like responding to call lights, passing meals, and transporting patients. The PCT is expected to receive feedback constructively, identify learning needs, and take action to improve performance. They will also provide patient and family instruction under the RN's direction and may apply, monitor, and remove restraints. Adherence to all policies, procedures, and safety protocols, including standard precautions, is mandatory. The PCT will document in the medical record, perform assigned work efficiently, and complete clerical functions as needed. Advanced skills such as phlebotomy, peripheral IV removal, indwelling Foley catheter removal, basic arrhythmia interpretation, 12-lead EKG, and NG tube clamping/removal may also be required based on department needs.
