About The Position

The Patient Care Technician (PRN) provides essential support in patient care delivery under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, executing delegated tasks in compliance with the Maryland Board of Nursing-Nurse Practice Act. Key responsibilities include obtaining vital signs, assisting with specimen collection and phlebotomy, delivering comfort measures, monitoring and accurately documenting patient conditions, and supporting various procedures such as central line and chest tube insertions. The role also encompasses maintaining a safe environment, preparing necessary equipment, performing post-mortem care, initiating CPR when required, and strictly adhering to infection control protocols. Furthermore, the technician contributes to staff orientation and training, ensures completion of all required documentation, and plays an active role in patient safety initiatives by identifying potential risks and reporting adverse events, while promoting effective communication within the healthcare team.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Maryland Nursing Assistant Certification
  • Completion of a relevant training program (hospital-based program, community college, Emergency Medical Technician, or Medical Corpsmen)
  • Equivalent on-the-job training may be accepted in place of formal training
  • Current CPR certification
  • Proficiency in applying universal safety precautions
  • Ability to respond effectively in emergency situations
  • Comprehensive knowledge of patient care principles across the lifespan
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of one year of recent direct patient care experience is preferred
