About The Position

Join UPMC Presbyterian, a Magnet-designated hospital, and be part of a collaborative team delivering Life Changing Medicine. UPMC Presbyterian is actively interviewing for a Casual NA/PCT to support the Abdominal Transplant Unit - 11N. 10 North is a 25-bed all private room Surgical Oncology unit that focuses on Gastrointestinal and Liver Surgery. The patient population consists of colon, gastric, pancreatic cancer and gastrointestinal disorders that require surgery. The liver population on the unit consists of liver resections, chemotherapy and management of common bile duct injuries. When needed we work closely with Palliative Care and Hospice to provide our patients and families with comprehensive end-of-life care. 10 North provides state-of-the-art oncology care which offers an opportunity to develop professional experience in all areas of surgical care. All hired candidates will complete a mandatory training course. This is a paid training program that spans over three days. The main program is on weekdays only and during daylight hours, combining virtual and in-person days. Attendance is mandatory for the entire training. Training is available on the unit for those who have completed a clinical rotation in a hospital or have specific transferable in-patient/hospital experience. Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Successful completion of UPMC Nursing Assistant, or Patient Care Technician, or EIC training program.
Knowledge of body mechanics and transfer techniques.
Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.

Nice To Haves

Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or Paramedic, or current enrollment in a Nursing, EMT or Paramedic program preferred.
Access to medications is limited to the distribution of the medication to the nurse.

Responsibilities

Must routinely perform the UPMC nursing core nursing assistant responsibilities, including ADLs (bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, ambulating, and turning and repositioning patients), PLUS point of care testing (inc. blood glucose), weights, vital signs, I&O, telemetry monitor application/reapplication, HAC & PSI prevention (TEDs/SCDs), and clean catch/mini catheter urine collection.
In addition, simple dressings, 12 lead EKG, bladder scan, all specimen collections.
Ensures equipment malfunctions are reported to the appropriate department.
Establishes professional and respectful interpersonal relationships.
Contributes to the universal unit activities including, but not limited to, responding to call lights and telephones, passing meal trays, and transporting patients.
Constructively receives feedback and direction.

Documents in the medical record according to established procedures.
Performs assigned work in a timely and productive manner.
Completes department clerical functions, as needed.
