About The Position

This position involves performing a rapid appraisal of a patient's immediate stability and responding as necessary to ensure patient well-being. Responsibilities include transporting patients, assisting RNs and Physicians with procedures, documenting care, recognizing work priorities, and monitoring supply levels. The role also involves notifying relevant departments for equipment and environmental maintenance. After training and where state statute permits, duties may include blood glucose testing, phlebotomy, saline lock insertion, IV discontinuation, and bladder catheterization/removal.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • BLS through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Must meet one of the following; Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) (If CNA must apply for LNA within 7 days and obtain LNA within 30 days of hire. Must complete IV Training within 90-days of hire)
  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
  • Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA)
  • Position uses problem solving skills and ability to effectively communication with patients, patients families, interdisciplinary and ancillary departments within the organization.
  • Able to handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Demonstrates good oral and written communication skills.
  • Able to manage technical business equipment i.e., phone, fax, computer etc.
  • Able to assist with the movement of an adult patient weighing up to 300 lbs.
  • Able to care for patients with infectious diseases.
  • Able to sit for 3-5 hours per day; Able to stand for 3-5 hours per day; Able to walk for 3-5 hours day.
  • Capable of consistently reaching and/or working above and below shoulder level

Responsibilities

  • Performs a rapid appraisal of a patient's immediate stability and respond as necessary to insure the well-being of the patient as necessary.
  • Transport patients to other departments on monitors, as appropriate and requested.
  • Assists RN's and Physicians with physical exams, diagnostic, and therapeutic procedures including but not limited to: electrocardiogram testing (EKG); wound cleansing and irrigation; initial, repeat and orthostatic vital sign measurements; application of monitor leads, specimen collection, and transports stable telemetry or non-monitored patients to nursing units.
  • Document all care/procedures provided.
  • Recognizes work priorities and responds; accordingly, anticipating the needs of the department.
  • After training and where state statue permits, performs blood glucose testing; phlebotomy; saline lock insertion; IV discontinuation; bladder catheterization and removal.
  • Monitors supply stock levels and reports needs.
  • Notifies environmental services (EVS), maintenance, biomedical engineering, and others to ensure proper equipment and a safe environment is maintained.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support overall effectiveness of department and organization.
