About The Position

The Patient Care Technician position in the Nursing Resource Pool (NRP – Float Pool) at MD Anderson Cancer Center provides patient care services as assigned by a registered nurse and directly impacts patient comfort and outcome of care. The Nursing Resource Pool (NRP) serves as the institution’s full-time float pool, providing highly trained Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) to support the operational needs of the organization. NRP nursing assistants help maintain appropriate staffing levels across units, especially when unit-based staff are on vacation, out due to illness, or when census and acuity require additional support. NRP plays a key role in supporting the Division of Nursing and Inpatient Operations by reducing reliance on outside agency staffing. Team members float to all 20+ inpatient units, including Surgical, Medical, Hematology, and various Specialty Cohorts. This is a fast-paced role that requires strong time-management skills, adaptability, and the ability to deliver safe, proficient patient care, even when floated multiple times during an 8- or 12-hour shift. Applicants should demonstrate strong clinical skills, interpersonal strengths, effective time-management, clear communication, and solid teamwork abilities to successfully thrive within the float pool environment.
