About The Position

The Patient Care Technician works on the Post Surgical / Med Surg Unit under the direction of a Registered Nurse and/or LPN. The role assists patients with activities of daily living and their plan of care, communicates with and supports the healthcare team and patients’ families or significant others, and maintains high standards of professional ethics. The position is full-time, on-site in Mount Holly, with a day shift of 12 hours and 36 total weekly hours.

Requirements

Demonstrated knowledge of basic patient care skills, procedures, and standards.
Strong communication skills.
High school diploma or GED.
Successful completion of a PCT course, a fundamentals nursing course in an RN program, or a Certified Nursing Assistant program, or the equivalent of one year of direct patient care experience.
BLS certification.

Responsibilities

Assist patients with bathing, dressing, grooming, oral care, feeding, toileting and hygiene, mobility, and transport.
Demonstrate standard precautions, including care of patients in isolation and safe patient practices.
Perform technical duties as directed by an RN or LPN, including taking vital signs, point-of-care testing, bladder scanning, and Foley catheter care specific to the patient population; document appropriately.
Perform phlebotomy and EKGs if certified.
Identify and communicate changes in patients’ status to an RN or LPN and respond appropriately.
Reinforce education for patients and their families or responsible parties regarding individual care needs and safety issues.
Participate in Virtua patient satisfaction initiatives and goals.
Participate in performance improvement activities.
Assist with orientation of new hires.
Enhance skills through ongoing education and training and maintain regulatory and departmental competencies.
