About The Position

Geisinger is seeking a highly motivated Patient Care Technician for Same Day Surgery at Geisinger Medical Center. This role does not require a CNA certification and offers day/evening shifts. The ideal candidate is committed to delivering high-quality patient care, meeting scheduling requirements, and demonstrating reliability, punctuality, and strong attendance. Excellent teamwork and communication skills are essential, along with a proactive and engaged presence to ensure exceptional patient outcomes. The position involves assisting with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), collecting vital signs, performing Point of Care testing, and other patient care duties under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Responsibilities

  • Facilitate ADLs: hygiene, toileting, mobility, meals
  • Collect vital signs & daily weights
  • Conduct Point of Care testing
  • Turn & reposition patients
  • Perform equipment checks & exchanges
  • Assist with dressing care
  • Perform removal of Foley Catheter and Peripheral IV
  • Perform nasogastric tube removal and nasal swabs
  • Check code carts and oxygen storage cabinets
  • Perform a wide variety of advanced patient care duties under the supervision of a Registered Nurse
  • Maintain the patient care and unit environment consistent with policies and procedures
  • Provide enhanced patient care, which may include advanced dressing care, suctioning, removal of Foley Catheter and peripheral IV
  • Perform venipunctures and skin punctures to obtain blood specimens
  • Perform daily, hands-on aspects of the storage, preparation and delivery of breast milk, infant and pediatric formulas
  • Document in the appropriate sections to create a complete and accurate medical record
  • Identify, observe, and document the physical needs of the patient
  • Report any changes in patient condition to licensed personnel
  • Obtain and maintain the integrity of specimens
  • Provide for or assist patients with activities of daily living and fulfill designated and delegated responsibilities for ongoing continuum of care
  • Provide one to one patient safety watch as assigned
  • Accurately process specimens and provide timely transport of the specimen to the laboratory
  • Perform point of care patient testing and point of care instrument maintenance and quality control
  • Assist in problem solving, trouble shooting and taking corrective measures in care and maintenance of equipment and supplies
  • Serve as a preceptor and mentor for new staff and students
  • Perform clerical duties for admissions, transfers, discharges, and deaths
  • Transcribe and process orders according to unit standard
  • Release and confirm ordered tests to appropriate departments
  • Coordinate transportation of patients to multiple tests
  • Participate in obtaining and communicating electronic information as pertinent to the nursing unit
  • Schedule tests, fax consults, etc.
  • Assist in ordering supplies (stationery items, floor stock, patient needs, individual nursing supplies)
  • Communicate with food services to ensure appropriate patient diets
  • Operate, problem solve, and take corrective measures for clerical equipment (scheduling maintenance of computers, fax machines, phones, etc.)
  • Assist with transporting non-controlled medications to and from Pharmacy and within the unit as needed
  • Assist with transporting blood products to and from Blood Bank as needed
  • Perform discharge follow up phone calls / coordinate virtual discharge appointment team
  • Support / Assist staff with 5 min Drills and/or Quality Rounds - participate in regulatory readiness as needed
