About The Position

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) performs patient care tasks and duties which do not require a license. The PCT is a trained member of the unit based team who supports the on-going delivery of care as identified by the multidisciplinary patient management team in Float Pool. Float Pool: Medical/Surgical and Critical Care. These individual Float Pool are units with no physical boundaries, but still maintain the integrity of each specialized team. The FP techs have the opportunity to work on all of the medical/surgical and critical care areas.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Must have excellent communication skills, ability to follow oral instructions, basic computer skills, strong work ethics and accountability
  • Must be able to lift 100 lbs. to waist height
  • 1 year of patient care experience in an acute care setting
  • Persons must have proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification as a nursing assistant or military corpsman

Responsibilities

  • Obtains patient report and has on-going communication with R.N. regarding patient care/changes in condition; Informs nurse of patient requests or complaints
  • Assists with admission, transfer, and discharge of patients
  • Transports patients to other areas of the hospital as directed
  • Carries out the Plan of Care for Patient using a Multidisciplinary Approach as Delegated by Team Leader
  • Communicates effectively with other team members to facilitate patient care.
  • Accepts directions from R.N.s and team members
  • Follows through on delegated patient care activities
  • Provides appropriate grooming/oral hygiene and comfort measures and assists patients with activities (ambulation, up in chair, turn and reposition).
  • Documents all patient care activities/tasks, vital signs, ADL, wave tests, I&O's accurately and timely and per unit and department standards.
  • Assists patients and visitors with information and/or solutions to problems.
  • Serves as resources person to support department members in performance of duties
  • Notifies appropriate staff members of problems requiring prompt intervention
  • May perform other duties as assigned
  • Employees in this role must be fitted for, capable of donning and performing routine tasks in personal protective equipment to include N95 masks, Powered Air Purifying Respirators (PAPR) or Controlled Air Purifying Respirators (CAPR).
