About The Position

The Patient Care Technician works in the 26-bed Surgical Intermediate Care Unit (2A), which treats adult patients with acute medical, surgical, and cardiac conditions, including complex surgical cases. The unit may also care for medical step-down and overflow patients. Under RN supervision, the technician performs basic patient care activities and supports unit workflow. The position is part-time, works days from 6:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., and includes rotating weekends.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Certified Nursing Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, or nursing school student who has completed one semester of clinical work.
American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS).

Responsibilities

Perform basic nursing care activities delegated and supervised by an RN, including monitoring vital signs, measuring blood glucose, and recording intake and output.
Assist patients with personal care and activities of daily living, including bathing, grooming, and eating.
Report abnormal findings or changes in patients’ physical, mental, and emotional conditions to nursing staff.
Help keep patient rooms clean and orderly.
Demonstrate flexibility, organization, and multitasking; function under stressful situations; and prioritize and complete unit work as needs change.
Serve as a liaison between patient care units and other patient-related departments.
Answer telephone, intercom, and call lights politely, use appropriate telephone etiquette, and communicate information to the appropriate staff, family, or patient.
Manage overall unit workflow with the charge RN and/or assistant manager as needed.
Perform pre-census activities and validate daily admission, discharge, and census lists as needed.
