About The Position

A Patient Care Tech (PCT) at ProMedica plays a vital role in the health and safety of our patients every day. From caring for patients to performing clerical services, a PCT helps all members of the ProMedica health care team while complying with standards, procedures, and policies. A PCT is a genuine ambassador for ProMedica as they interact with patients, visitors, and co-workers. The PCT assists the patient care team with exams, procedures, obtaining patient data and other processes related to direct patient care. The PCT also ensures an appropriate stock of supplies and equipment is available and functioning properly. In this role, you will perform tasks related to scheduling procedures, coordinating admission as well as discharge and transfer processes. PCTs answer phones, take messages, and direct calls. You will also pick up and deliver specimens, documents, and other items to contribute to operational efficiency.

Requirements

High school graduate
Clerical skills, computer skills and ability to use office equipment.
Experience or coursework in medical terminology required or pass medical terminology test.
Ability to pass competencies of the position.
Must have an even temperament and pleasant personality.
Ability to handle frequent contacts with a variety of individuals.
Maintain emotional stability in variable situations.
Facilitates interdepartmental communications and relationships.
Effective communication skills and service-oriented attitude.
STNA certification required for those hired after 3/26/2016.
CPR certified.

Responsibilities

Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and recognizes characteristics of developmental levels for various age groups, considering the developmental level of the patient when providing care.
Delivers appropriate direct patient care, including answering call lights, obtaining vital signs, assisting with ambulation, positioning, transfers, nourishment, personal hygiene, specimen collection, intake and output, elimination needs, checking blood glucose levels, and safe utilization of patient equipment.
Completes hourly rounds on patients, addressing pain, potty, personal needs, and positioning, ensuring rooms are clean and equipment is in place.
Collects patient data as directed, recognizes and reports abnormal findings, symptoms, condition changes, and patient responses to treatment to the registered nurse, and documents collected data.
Assists in preparing patients for treatments, procedures, and studies, both physically and psychologically.
Performs a variety of clerical duties, including transcribing physician orders, order entry, maintaining patient charts, compiling reports, maintaining logbooks, completing charges, and scheduling appointments/treatments/procedures.
Maintains a safe, secure, and clean environment for patients and families, implementing appropriate safety measures such as fall prevention and infection control.
Safeguards hospital supplies, property, and equipment, orders supplies, maintains par levels, and restocks supply areas.
Responds to beeper calls and code situations as directed.
Investigates and reports any problem relating to patient care, unit, and/or personnel promptly.
Assists with orientation of new personnel.
Demonstrates a commitment to the continuous improvement of service.
Uses appropriate methods to communicate with patients and/or families.
Transports patients to and from departments and acts as a courier for supplies, cultures, and specimens.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Notary Public designation for completion of birth certificates (non-Women’s Center based PCT’s would be exempt from this duty).
