About The Position

The NICU Patient Care Technician (PCT) is an essential member of the care team and helps provide patients with the best experience possible. In addition to organization-wide PCT duties, the NICU PCT is trained to assist with sterile procedures, including PICC line placement, IV securement, lab draws, and preparation of infant feedings. The role also includes special training to assist the NICU Transport Team at the helipad, preparing admission rooms, and stocking supplies to meet the team’s needs. The PCT implements the identified plan of care in coordination with the interdisciplinary care team, supports patient health and wellness, communicates relevant patient information, and helps maintain infection prevention and safety practices. The position provides assistance with activities of daily living and measures and records patient weight, height, and vital signs, reporting changes to the assigned nurse. Care is guided by Jean Watson’s Theory of Human Caring and emphasizes respectful relationships, advocacy, ethical practice, inclusion, effective communication, and continued learning. The PCT may mentor new PCTs and support students. This is a part-time, patient-facing, on-site position with a 12-hour day shift and 24 hours per week. It has no supervisory or budget responsibilities. Physical demands include frequent standing, walking, pulling, pushing, handling, and fine and gross motor tasks; lifting and pushing or pulling up to 50 pounds are listed. The role frequently involves exposure to infectious diseases and occasionally involves combative patients and needle-stick risk.
