About The Position

Under the direction of a Registered Nurse and/or LPN, the Patient Care Technician assists patients with activities of daily living and their plan of care. The role communicates with and supports the healthcare team, patients, and patients’ families or significant others, while maintaining high standards of professional ethics. This is a part-time, on-site position at Virtua Health’s Marlton location, working 12-hour night shifts for 24 hours per week.

Requirements

Demonstrated knowledge of basic patient care skills, procedures, and standards.
Strong communication skills.
High school diploma or GED.
Successful completion of a PCT course, a fundamentals of nursing course in an RN program, or a Certified Nursing Assistant program, or the equivalent of one year of direct patient care experience.
BLS certification.
Enhance skills through ongoing education and training, and maintain regulatory and departmental-level competencies.

Responsibilities

Assist patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, grooming, oral care, feeding, toileting and hygiene, mobility, and transport.
Demonstrate standard precautions, including care of patients in isolation and safe patient practices.
Perform technical duties as directed by an RN or LPN, such as taking vital signs, point-of-care testing, bladder scanning, and Foley catheter care; document appropriately.
Perform phlebotomy and EKGs if certified.
Identify and communicate changes in patient status to the RN or LPN and respond appropriately.
Reinforce education for patients and their families or responsible parties regarding individual care needs and safety issues.
Participate in Virtua patient satisfaction initiatives and goals.
Participate in performance improvement activities.
Assist with orientation of new hires.
