About The Position

This is a Part-Time Patient Care Technician position on the 12S unit at UPMC Presbyterian. The role involves providing routine patient care and supporting department services under the direction of nurses and physicians. Duties include ADLs (bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, ambulating, turning and repositioning patients, and blood glucose), vital signs, simple dressings, EKGs, bladder scans, and specimen collections. The 12S unit is a 30-bed acuity adaptable General Medicine Unit with a diverse patient population, including hepatology, urology, endocrinology, post-surgical complications, pulmonary, and infectious disease. This teaching unit offers opportunities to gain inpatient experience and expand clinical knowledge, with daily multidisciplinary bedside rounds and collaboration with discharge planning.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Either 1 year of general healthcare experience, OR 6 months of experience as UPMC Nursing Assistant/CNA with PCT competency achieved within 120 days of hire/transfer/promotion for those with less than 1 year of experience, OR enrollment in PT/OT/PA program or related healthcare training program with completion of at least one clinical rotation, OR completion of a bachelor’s degree in a health sciences field.
  • Successful completion of UPMC patient care technician class.
  • Successful completion of eRecord training.
  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
  • Act 34 clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic or currently enrolled in an EMT or Paramedic program.
  • ACLS preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform ADLs (bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, ambulating, turning and repositioning patients, and blood glucose).

  • Collect all specimens.
