About The Position

Under the direction of a Registered Nurse and/or LPN, the Patient Care Technician assists patients with activities of daily living and their plan of care. The technician communicates with and supports the healthcare team, patients, and patients’ families or significant others, while maintaining high standards of professional ethics. This is a per diem, part-time, on-site day-shift position at Virtua’s Voorhees location. The posted shift is a 12-hour day shift.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Successful completion of a PCT course, a fundamentals of nursing course in an RN program, or a Certified Nursing Assistant program; alternatively, one year of equivalent direct patient care experience.
BLS certification.
Knowledge of basic patient care skills, procedures, and standards.
Strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

Assist patients with bathing, dressing, grooming, oral care, feeding, toileting and hygiene, mobility, and transport.
Demonstrate standard precautions, including care of patients in isolation and safe patient practices.
Perform technical duties as directed by an RN or LPN, including vital signs, point-of-care testing, bladder scanning, and Foley catheter care appropriate to the patient population, and document the work appropriately.
Perform phlebotomy and EKGs if certified.
Identify and communicate changes in patient status to the RN or LPN and respond appropriately.
Reinforce education for patients and their families or responsible parties regarding individual care needs and safety issues.
Participate in Virtua patient satisfaction initiatives and goals.
Participate in performance improvement activities.
Assist with orientation of new hires.
Enhance skills through ongoing education and training and maintain regulatory and departmental competencies.
