About The Position

The Orthopedic & Spine Hospital (TOSH), UAMS Health’s brand-new surgical hospital, is seeking passionate patient care technicians ready to join a team redefining quality care. The Patient Care Technician (PCT) is a trained member of the unit-based team who supports the ongoing delivery of care as identified by the multidisciplinary Patient Management Team. The PCT works under the direct supervision of the R.N. and performs tasks and duties that do not require a license, professional judgment, or intervention. The PCT must pass the required competencies. The PCT works within the Department of Nursing standards. The PCT adheres to UAMS clinical programs, policies, procedures, and standards, and guest care guidelines. They will also be cross-trained as an IA, the face of the nursing unit who greets every guest, making them feel welcome and helping keep them informed. The Information Associate (IA) maintains order on the unit by routing new orders and consults, answering call lights, and meeting the paging needs of the units, monitoring for and meeting patient needs, thus helping to ensure patient flow through the unit is seamless. The IA also performs admission and discharge duties, reconciles and enters patient charges, performs data entry, helps with stocking/ cleaning, and does telemetry and video monitoring. The IA is responsible and accountable for the tone of the nursing unit.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Successful completion of the PCT course within 3 months of hire
  • CPR Certified/Licensed
  • BLS Required
  • Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares patient rooms for patients.
  • Assists with medical procedures and examinations.
  • Conducts patient interviews, measures vital signs (i.e., pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height), and performs phlebotomy.
  • Performs EKGs.
  • Research and scribes for physicians if needed.
  • Performs administrative tasks by scheduling patients for appointments, procedures, etc., using the various registration and scheduling systems.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
