This role involves performing a wide variety of advanced patient care duties under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, maintaining the patient care and unit environment consistent with policies and procedures. The position requires meeting qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range on their assigned clinical area. The Patient Care Tech provides enhanced patient care under the direction of the licensed nurse, which may include advanced dressing care, suctioning, removal of Foley Catheter and peripheral IV. They may also perform venipunctures and skin punctures to obtain blood specimens, and handle the daily, hands-on aspects of breast milk, infant and pediatric formula storage, preparation, and delivery. Documentation in the medical record, observation and reporting of patient condition changes, and specimen handling are key responsibilities. The role includes assisting patients with activities of daily living, patient hygiene, changing linens, and providing one-to-one patient safety watches. Accurate specimen processing and transport, point-of-care testing, and instrument maintenance are also part of the duties. The technician will assist in problem-solving for equipment and supplies, serve as a preceptor/mentor for new staff and students, and perform clerical duties related to admissions, transfers, discharges, and deaths. Transcribing and processing orders, releasing and confirming ordered tests, and coordinating patient transportation are also required. The role involves communicating electronic information, scheduling tests, ordering supplies, and communicating with food services for patient diets. Operating and troubleshooting clerical equipment, transporting non-controlled medications, and assisting with blood product transport are also duties. The position includes discharge follow-up phone calls, coordinating virtual discharge appointments, and supporting staff with drills and quality rounds, participating in regulatory readiness as needed.
