The Patient Care Technician provides direct, age-specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and the plan of care under the direction of the RN or licensed independent practitioner. This role involves providing safe and direct care to patients in their assigned unit, monitoring their conditions, and updating the healthcare team. The technician will also provide direct and indirect care to meet patients' comfort, personal hygiene, and safety needs, adhering to nursing and medical plans of care and VCUHS policies. Maintaining a safe, clean, and stocked environment is crucial, as is managing supplies and ensuring quality patient care outcomes. The position contributes to the patient experience by identifying patients, observing safety goals, and reporting any changes or incidents to the appropriate personnel. Responsibilities include obtaining and recording patient information, collecting specimens, attending mandatory training, and participating in patient safety initiatives. Establishing and maintaining positive relationships with patients, visitors, and colleagues is also essential. The role requires the ability to provide equitable care appropriate to the age of the patients served, including neonates, infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
