This position provides basic patient care under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse. The role involves delivering high-quality care to a diverse patient population, including Adult, Medical/Surgical, Geriatric, Telemetry, Cardiac, Neonate, Infant, Toddler, School Age, Adolescent, and Psychiatric care patients. Key duties encompass performing bedside shift reports, implementing policies for fall prevention, assisting in wound prevention and managing hospital-acquired pressure injuries, and ensuring the safety of restrained patients as directed by the licensed nurse. The technician is expected to be cost-conscious with equipment and supplies, adhere to safety practices (e.g., infection control, proper use of lifts and PPE), and demonstrate proficiency in keyboarding, computer navigation, and basic math for tasks like intake/output calculations. Responsibilities also include setting up medical equipment such as oxygen, portable x-ray machines, and overhead irrigation bottles. The role involves promptly responding to patient call lights, conducting skin assessments and reporting abnormalities, assisting with activities of daily living (ADL’s), maintaining clean patient rooms, collecting and labeling specimens, delivering messages and documents, feeding patients who require assistance, observing and reporting changes in patient conditions (e.g., vital signs, intake/output), assisting patients with walking, exercising, and transfers, transporting patients via wheelchair or stretcher, and repositioning patients to prevent pressure ulcers. The technician proactively monitors patients for safety, communicates needs for monitoring devices, consistently uses patient safety devices, accurately documents activities in medical records, performs blood glucose monitoring, and conducts quality monitoring. Additionally, the role includes clerical and administrative functions such as greeting visitors, facilitating admissions, discharges, and transfers, operating various office and medical equipment (nurse call, fax, scanners, photocopier, computer, telephone, telemetry), maintaining supply inventory, accurate order entry, assembling and tearing down medical records, and performing quality checks on equipment like crash carts and transport monitors.
