The Patient Care Technician provides direct, age-specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and the plan of care under the direction of the RN or licensed independent practitioner. This role involves providing safe and direct care, monitoring patient conditions, and assisting with patient comfort, hygiene, and safety needs in accordance with nursing and medical plans of care. The technician is also responsible for maintaining a safe and clean environment, managing supplies, and contributing to the patient experience by identifying patients, observing safety goals, and reporting changes in patient status or incidents. Key duties include obtaining and recording patient information, assisting with specimen collection, attending mandatory training, and ensuring patient safety initiatives are followed. The role requires establishing and maintaining positive relationships with patients, visitors, and healthcare team members, and demonstrating cultural responsiveness. The Patient Care Technician must be able to provide equitable care appropriate to the age of the patients served, including neonates, infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
