About The Position

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) on 6 East Med Surg performs basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision. This role is crucial in assisting patients with their daily living activities, ensuring their comfort, and reporting any changes in their condition to the nursing staff. The PCT also plays a part in maintaining a clean and orderly environment for patients and ensuring medical equipment is in good working order. This position is based at UAB St. Vincent's East in Trussville.

Requirements

BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
High School diploma equivalency OR 1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.

Responsibilities

Perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision.
Assist patients with ambulation as necessary. This may include helping them to a recliner in their room, walk to the bathroom or down the hall. Assist dismissed patients in getting safely to their vehicles.
Assist patients with tending to personal care and activities of daily living.
Reports findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to nursing staff. Documents necessary records.
Keeps patient rooms clean, orderly, and maintains medical equipment.
Performs certain technical patient care duties in the hospital as directed by the staff nurse such as oxygen setup, foley catheter care, pulse oximetry setup, specimen collection and EKGs.
Obtain and record vitals, weight, and inputs and outputs.
Perform other duties as assigned.
