About The Position

This position is for a Patient Care Technician on the Neurology Unit, working night shifts. The role involves assisting patients with personal care needs, monitoring vital signs, assisting with mobility, and supporting nursing and clerical staff. The technician will document patient care in the electronic medical record and answer unit phones. The position is part-time, 24 hours per week, with a required orientation and every other weekend work. The hourly pay rate ranges from $19.71 to $28.58, determined by factors such as expertise and years of experience.

Requirements

• Completion of high school or equivalent.
• Completion of an accredited CNA course and the successful completion of the CNA certification exam, EMT or paramedics training course, or current enrollment in an accredited nursing program with the completion of at least one major clinical medical or surgical rotation.
• Current CPR certification from the American Heart Association.

Responsibilities

• Assists patients with personal care needs including bathing, grooming, oral care, eating, use of bedpan or urinal, positioning, answering and responding to patient call lights, bed making, etc. under the supervision of a RN/LPN.
• Assists with exercising and ambulating patient; utilizes correct body mechanics while assisting with patient mobility; maintains physical safety and comfort of patient under supervision of a RN/LPN.
• Obtains patient vital signs, input and output checks, and accu-checks, and reports abnormalities to the nurse. As directed by RN/LPN performs procedures such as EKG’s, perineal care, emptying of foley bags, application of restraints, backrubs, etc.
• Collects specimens such as urine, feces, sputum, and delivers as necessary.
• Documents basic patient care into electronic medical record.
• Assists nursing and clerical staff with admitting, discharging, transferring, ambulating, transporting, and observing patients to ensure safety as directed.
• Adequately answers unit phones and can effectively direct phone calls to the appropriate parties.
• May perform duties of an Observation Assistant as needed.
