About The Position

Provides direct or indirect patient care in accordance with treatment plans determined or delegated by a licensed nurse or RN. Assists with tasks needed for the general management and organization of the patient care unit, remaining flexible to meet patient and unit needs. This role is in the Medical Short Stay department at Rochester General Hospital, with a 36-hour workweek and schedules of 7 a.m.–7 p.m. and 7 p.m.–7 a.m.

Requirements

Minimum age of 18.
Excellent customer service and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

Completion of Nursing Fundamentals, CNA certification, experience as a medical assistant or technician in a health-related facility, or participation in a Patient Care Technician training program.
Associate degree.

Responsibilities

Provide direct patient care and indirect activities to facilitate unit functioning.
Participate as a member of the care delivery team.
Provide safe and competent care related to patients’ nutritional, skin integrity, elimination, and hygiene needs, including bathing, grooming, and changing bed linens.
Take patient vital signs, including temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, and pain level.
Communicate with compassion and provide support to patients and their family members.
Communicate effectively with the care delivery team and model teamwork.
Assist with patient ambulation, feeding, transferring, and lifting.
Assist with patient admission, discharge, and transfer.
May perform clerical duties, including transcription and maintenance of patient charts.
Assist patients with mobility, including sitting, standing, and walking.
For cath lab only: stock rooms and potentially handle medications, sharps, and syringes on the OR field.
