About The Position

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) in the Emergency Department (ED) at Texas Health Dallas is responsible for providing assistance to patients according to the plan of care. This role involves collecting patient data, identifying and reporting significant findings to nurses, and assisting with admissions, transfers, and discharges. The PCT also provides and revises patient activities of daily living based on patient and family preferences, performs technical procedures safely and proficiently, takes action to reduce or eliminate patient risk, and enters orders into the computer or manual system if applicable. The Emergency Department is a fast-paced, high-volume department averaging 200 patients per day, offering self-scheduling for work-life balance and opportunities for educational and career growth.

Requirements

  • PCT Training Program TX CNA, NHA, NAHP, NCCT, accredited community college program or a THR approved program upon hire required. Not required to maintain certification when applicable after hire.
  • EMT - Emergency Medical Technician Military experience with medical training equivalent (Equivalent to EMT-B) upon hire required
  • Other Nursing student who has completed fundamentals or foreign nurse degree program upon hire required
  • Other - 1 year of applicable experience in lieu of an active and approved certification upon hire required
  • BCLS - Basic Cardiac Life Support prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly required
  • Possesses organizational skills to function in a fast-paced work environment, positive interpersonal skills, and good verbal and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Nursing Students who do not complete courses of study in nursing but have completed their Fundamentals Training and EMTs who do not formally retain their EMT status may continue in role if they have consistently demonstrated skills in their PCT position.
