About The Position

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) works as part of a dialysis health care team to provide safe and effective dialysis therapy under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse. The role includes setting up and operating hemodialysis machines, supporting a safe and clean environment, and contributing to the organization’s Quality Enhancement Program and continuous quality improvement activities. The PCT welcomes patients, checks their condition and vascular access, obtains vital signs and weights, initiates and monitors dialysis treatment according to prescribed orders, and responds to treatment concerns under established directions. The position includes documenting treatment information, reporting changes in patient condition, collecting laboratory specimens, and monitoring patients performing self-care under RN supervision. The PCT also helps train applicable direct patient care staff under nurse supervision and supports infection-control practices and patient education. The work involves patient and staff interaction, desk and computer work, travel between assigned facilities and community locations, and a health care environment with moderate noise and potential exposure to infectious materials. Direct patient care regularly involves lifting and moving patients and assisting with ambulation. The role requires frequent, prolonged standing and bending, and may involve pushing or pulling equipment and lifting solutions. Reasonable accommodations may be considered. Employees must take the Ishihara color blindness test as a condition of employment; failing the test does not preclude employment if reasonable accommodations can be made.
