About The Position

The Clinical Assistant's role is to assist the Registered Nurse (RN) and Medical Licensed Practical Nurse (MLPN) in ensuring the patient is safe, comfortable and clean. This role involves assisting with patient care across various age groups, including neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients, recognizing their unique needs based on assigned unit(s). The position requires planning and prioritizing patient care functions, implementing actions that support nursing care, and evaluating the effectiveness of care provided to ensure quality and timely completion of patient-related issues. Self-management is key, with an emphasis on accountability for patient care delivery, effective communication, interpersonal relationships, and a commitment to continued personal and staff development. Responsibilities may be directed by the RN/MLPN. Additionally, the role involves operating equipment as per orientation checklists and policies, participating in equipment in-services and competencies, and performing job skills outlined on the orientation checklist.

Requirements

  • Current CNA certification and keep it active
  • Hold an internal MidMichigan Health Patient Care Technician certification or a current State of Michigan registry document as a certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
  • Completion of Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification culminating in licensure in the State of Michigan
  • Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse Program culminating in licensure in the State of Michigan
  • Successful completion of one semester of nursing clinical education by an Accredited Registered Nurse Program
  • Medical Assistant with Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through American Medical Technologist (AMT)
  • Medical Assistant with Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) through American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
  • Equivalent Medical Assistant Credential such as Certified Clinical Medical Assistant CCMA, etc.
  • BLS: Basic Life Support (AHA)
  • PCT: MMH PCT/CNA/EMT/LPN Certification
  • FINGERPRIN: Fingerprinting
  • RECIPIENT: Recipient Rights
  • High School Diploma

Nice To Haves

  • Current Care Assistants as of April 1, 2020 who do not have a current CNA will be grandfathered in and not required to obtain the certification as long as they stay in their current classification.
  • Current Care Assistants as of April 1, 2020 who do have a current and active CNA will be required to maintain and keep active their certification as long as they are in their current classification.
  • Internal transfers after on or after April 1, 2020 will be required to obtain the CNA certification or complete the internal MidMichigan Health Patient Care Technician certification within six (6) months of their transfer date. Once obtaining their certification, they will be required to maintain and keep the certification active while in employed in either classification.

Responsibilities

  • Assumes responsibility for own continued development and assists with the development of other staff members.
  • Operates equipment as outlined on orientation checklists, policy and procedures.
  • Participates in equipment in-services and competencies as they relate to role expectations.
  • Performs job skills outlined on orientation checklist as they relate to role expectations.
