About The Position

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) - Med Surg position at Texas Health Southwest requires a passion for providing excellent patient care. This full-time role involves working days (6:45 AM – 7:15 PM) for 36 hours per week, with weekend and holiday requirements. Texas Health Southwest, operating as one hospital across two locations with Texas Health Clearfork, has been serving the Fort Worth community since 1987. It is a 261-bed, full-service hospital with specialties including surgical services, orthopedics, imaging, and adult critical care. The hospital boasts a 24-hour emergency department and holds certifications as a Primary Heart Attack Center, Primary Stroke Center, Level III Trauma Center, Level III Maternal Center, and Level III Neonatal Center. It also has national accreditations for Breast care and Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement. Texas Health Southwest has received numerous accolades, including Magnet designation, a CMS 4-Star rating, recognition as a top hospital by U.S. News & World Report, and a Press Ganey Guardian of Excellence award.

Requirements

  • H.S. Diploma or Equivalent Required.
  • CLIAFE Must comply with CLIA regulations regarding foreign education equivalency Required.
  • PCT Training Program TX CNA, NHA, NAHP, NCCT, accredited community college program or a THR approved program. Not required to maintain certification when applicable after hire. Upon Hire Required OR EMT - Emergency Medical Technician Military experience with medical training equivalent (Equivalent to EMT-B) Upon Hire Required OR Other Nursing student who has completed fundamentals or foreign nurse degree program Upon Hire Required OR Other 1 year of applicable experience in lieu of an active and approved certification. Upon Hire Required
  • BCLS - Basic Cardiac Life Support prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly Required
  • CPI - Crisis Prevention Intervention Training Maintained Annually 90 Days Required.
  • Possesses organizational skills to function in a fast-paced work environment, positive interpersonal skills, and good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Nursing Students who do not complete course of study in nursing but having completed their Fundamentals Training and EMTs who do not formally retain their EMT status may continue in role if they have consistently demonstrated skills in their PCT position.

Responsibilities

  • Provides patient care and assistance based on the plan of care and patient/family preferences.
  • Collects and reports patient data, supports admission, transfer, and discharge processes.
  • Performs technical procedures safely and documents care accurately.
  • Collaborates with nurses to adapt care for diverse populations and cultural needs.
  • Maintains a clean, safe environment and proactively meets patient and visitor needs.
  • Demonstrates teamwork, flexibility, and effective communication across disciplines.
  • Participates in process improvement, adheres to safety goals, and advocates for patients.
