About The Position

The Patient Care Tech Trainee provides direct patient care under the guidance and oversight of a Registered Nurse or designated health care professional, in accordance with applicable regulations and Bon Secours Mercy Health policies, procedures, and guidelines. The temporary nurse aid training program enhances working clinical experience. The position is in the Progressive Care Unit at Fairfield Hospital and is scheduled for 36 hours per week on days/evenings.

Requirements

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is preferred upon hire and must be obtained from an approved source before providing direct patient care.
• Problem-solving skills and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Engage professionally with staff and patients.
• Ability to be proactive in a rapidly changing environment.
• Knowledge of patient and healthcare safety standards, regulations, and infection prevention.
• Ability to use clinical technology.
• Accountability for completing assigned tasks and escalating concerns as necessary.

Nice To Haves

• Recent experience in a healthcare environment, preferably in the setting for which the applicant is applying; experience is preferred but not required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide basic patient care, including care and comfort, vital-sign measurement, personal care and hygiene, and mobility assistance, including unit-based specialty duties.
• Act as a liaison between patients and nurses by reporting changes and concerns.
• Provide high-level customer service to patients, patients’ families, visitors, and employees.
• Complete accurate, precise, and timely patient-care documentation when applicable.
• Participate in hand-off and reporting of pertinent patient and departmental information upon arrival and when leaving.
• Perform delegated tasks under oversight to develop competencies aligned with education.
