Patient Care Technician
About The Position
DaVita is looking for a Patient Care Technician (PCT) to join their team. This role involves providing care in an outpatient dialysis center to patients with end-stage renal failure or chronic kidney disease. The position offers paid, extensive training to gain necessary skills and build a network of healthcare professionals. Upon completion of training, PCTs work with a team of nurses, dietitians, social workers, and other experienced PCTs. The role is described as more than a job, emphasizing giving life and a career based on passion and purpose. Training may occur in a facility or training clinic other than the assigned home clinic, and there is a potential to float to various clinics during and after training. A flexible schedule is required, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Requirements
- Desire to enter the health care field to care for other people in need
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must be comfortable working around blood and needles
- Must be comfortable mixing acid or bicarb
- Physical and mental ability to work long hours (some shifts are 12+ hours) on your feet
- Willingness to train and work across multiple clinics within the territory as needed.
Nice To Haves
- Dialysis Experience Is NOT Required!
- Health care experience a plus including: BONENT Certified, Certified Hemodialysis Technician (CHT), Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), or Phlebotomy certification.
Responsibilities
- Spend the majority of your day in direct one-on-one patient care to provide safe, comfortable and hygienic dialysis treatment.
- Care for multiple patients.
- Monitor patients before, during and after dialysis treatment including measuring and recording stats, patient observations, and hemodialysis machine setup.
- Build long-term relationships with patients suffering from end-stage renal disease.
- Educate patients on Kidney Dialysis related topics.
- Work under the supervision of a RN.
- Cross functional team of clinicians including technicians, nurses, dietitians, social workers and leadership.
