About The Position

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) supports perioperative and recovery services within the Post Anesthesia Care Unit at Life Sciences Plaza. The Patient Care Technician (PCT) is responsible for maintaining a safe, efficient surgical and recovery environment while providing direct patient care, patient transport, and operational support. The Patient Care Technician (PCT) works closely with nursing, anesthesia, and surgical teams to ensure timely workflows, room readiness, and adherence to performance standards. MD Anderson Cancer Center is a leading institution focused on cancer care, research, education, and prevention. In this role, the PCT contributes to high-quality patient care in a fast-paced clinical environment by supporting patient safety, efficiency, and continuity of care across the perioperative setting. The ideal candidate will be organized, flexible, and demonstrate exceptional communication and customer service skills ensuring every interaction with patients, families, and coworkers reflects compassion and respect. Will have the ability to stay adaptable in a fast-paced clinical setting and will excel in high volume workflows while maintaining strong patient care standards. Current or previous experience as a PCT or Nursing Assistant is preferred. Must have flexibility to float to other areas within PACU.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
  • The ability to satisfy and maintain all requirements necessary to ensure the continued security and integrity of such infrastructure is a condition of hire and continued employment.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize time efficiently by completing assigned responsibilities and seeking additional assignments when available.
  • Organize workflow to support on-time starts and efficient case turnovers.
  • Use time, materials, supplies, and equipment efficiently to reduce waste.
  • Maintain stable performance under pressure and manage crisis or difficult situations appropriately.
  • Demonstrate awareness of operational costs and participate in cost-saving strategies.
  • Put away all supplies and equipment after each case.
  • Complete annual self-appraisal and provide required documentation.
  • Prepare and maintain the surgical environment for assigned patients.
  • Clean and turn over operating rooms according to performance standards.
  • Clean the operating room after the last case and prepare rooms for closure.
  • Provide direct patient care according to performance standards.
  • Assist with activities of daily living, mobilization, and admit and discharge processes.
  • Obtain and record vital signs.
  • Perform patient transport duties safely and efficiently.
  • Perform supply and transport responsibilities according to performance standards.
  • Act as a member of a multidisciplinary team to identify and address patient care needs.
  • Update and retrieve patient information accurately.
  • Ensure patient environments are clean, safe, and orderly.
  • Function as part of an assigned care team.
  • Pursue learning and self-development opportunities.
  • Actively seek feedback and apply learning to improve performance.
  • Set high standards of performance and demonstrate a drive for results.
