The Patient Care Technician (PCT) works as part of a dialysis health care team to provide safe and effective dialysis therapy under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse. The role includes setting up and operating hemodialysis machines, maintaining a safe and clean work environment, and supporting quality improvement activities focused on patient satisfaction and clinical outcomes. The technician provides direct patient care, documents treatment, reports changes in patient condition, and assists with patient education and infection control. In the Transitional Care Unit, the technician supports newly admitted patients through their first four weeks of dialysis and helps coordinate education and transitions to a chosen dialysis modality. The work takes place in a health care facility and involves interaction with patients, facility staff, and physicians, as well as travel between assigned facilities and locations in the community. The position may involve exposure to infectious or contagious diseases and materials. Physical work includes frequent and prolonged standing, bending, lifting and moving patients, assisting with ambulation, and handling solutions and equipment. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. Employees must take the Ishihara color blindness test as a condition of employment; failing the test does not preclude employment, and reasonable accommodations will be considered.
