About The Position

This is a full-time Patient Care Technician position in the Emergency Department. The role involves providing direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment, and ensuring effective communication of patient information. The technician will perform special procedures, communicate professionally with patients and families, and take initiative for professional growth. Specific duties may include performing electrocardiograms, phlebotomy, and collecting forensic samples. Patient care will be age and developmentally appropriate. The position requires 36 hours per week with a rotating day schedule (7 am - 7 pm) and every other weekend work.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • One year experience as a Nurse Aide II and/or previous experience as an Emergency Medical Technician, ECG Technician and/or Phlebotomist.
  • Nurse Aide II, Emergency Medical Technician, ECG Technician or Phlebotomist.
  • Maintain annual competency through documented education and return demonstrations/skill checks
  • Ability to perform procedures under direction of RN as requested

Responsibilities

  • Participates in the implementation of the nursing process by giving direct care to patients under the direction of the Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Creates and maintains a safe and therapeutic environment for patients, self, co-workers, and facility.
  • Ensures complete, accurate, and timely communication of patient information.
  • Performs special procedures correctly under direction of Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Communicates to the team, co-workers, patients, and family members in an effective, positive, and professional manner.
  • Takes personal responsibility and initiative for performance and for professional growth and development.
  • May perform electrocardiograms on order of physician, at the direction of the RN or per protocol.
  • May performs phlebotomy on order of the physician or at the direction of the RN.
  • Collects samples for forensic testing (blood and/or urine) at the direction of RN.
  • Provides age/developmental appropriate patient care in accordance with Age/Developmental Specific Care Guidelines for the specific age groups served.
  • Performs other duties as directed by leadership.
